Misty:

I am in the process of going through this right now. I have one that is going to be scheduled in the next few weeks but I have had two others in the past and they didn't find anything then either but it's been years. Just make sure that you tell the doctor you want to be completely sedated, if you are an anxious patient like I am then be honest and tell him/her. My first one the doctor did not believe in sedation and it was a known fact among other doctors as I was told this and I screamed through the whole thing, never again will I do that! I made sure to tell this doctor that he is going to sedate me or I won't go through with it. It is MY request! Anyhow, as everyone has said, it's the preparation I think that is the worst part. Once the test is over with you'll probably say the same thing also. I have had abdominal/pelvic pain for years now and have had 3 laps done with never any indication of endo which they always suspect. Now i have problems since being put on birth control pills. I'm hoping this month it is better but the last 2 months the pain was horrible and had to go in for pain shots at the ER. I have had 2 c-sections and on my second one I had the tubal done. I did notice 10 years ago after my 2nd son was born and I had the tubal that my periods were "different", like they were a little "harder" with the cramping. Just recently it has gotten much, much worst. Every time they go in they never, ever find endo or adhesions, as a matter of fact the dr came out and told my husband and family that I am a textbook case that the ovaries, tubes and everything else looked 100% fine. I was so disappointed because I didn't have any answers YET AGAIN. Now I've been referred to the gastro dr before my gyn will go any further. The gyn believes that I have the condition called adenomyosis which the endo is on the inside of the uterus. I have always had my period roll on for about 10 days, the end part being where I was "leaking" but nevertheless I was still going for 10-11 days total. Also due to the pain with sex and the low pain in the pelvic area and back, which sometimes can be fooled by gastro problems and that is why they are going to try and rule that out. My gyn wants to do a hysterectomy, just to take the uterus out because he says that's the only way to "diagnose" adeno (which he says he's pretty sure I have it) is once the uterus is out. There are other tests that can be done apparently, hysteroscopy which I was never told about until I came onto this board but the results can vary because for them to get it right they would have to place the needle in the place where the adeno is located in the uterus and it's almost like they are going in blind. It's a hit and miss thing is what I am told but I've never had it so I can't say for sure. MRI's apparently aren't that great either but again, I"m not comfortable with just being told that I should have the uterus taken out, granted we don't want anymore children so that wouldn't be a problem but the problem is I don't want major surgery and have him come out and tell me/us that they didn't find anything in the uterus either! I would have to completely trust him so just keep your options open, keep researching and be adamant in your healthcare. If it hurts, sometimes they want to pass it off but don't let them! It's your body and when something hurts, something is not right is my opinion.

Good luck with the colonoscopy. I'm right there with ya only I've had the 2 others but this is a different doctor yet again and it's been years but I told him I'm laying on my back and NOT turning over until I'm out so much that I don't know what the heck I'm doing and the nurse will have to turn me over but not moving until I'm completely sedated!!! That's the only request I had so my dr promised me he would put me out enough that I wouldn't know what was going on!! If you're nervous just request it!

Take care and i hope this day finds you pain free! Sherry
