originally, my insurance company balked too. but they covered the generic (leuprolide acetate). it's a very expensive drug, so they don't like to pay for it.

when i did lupron, i ordered it from the pharmacy, and they would deliver it to the dr's office. when it came in at the dr's office, they would call me and schedule the shot. one of the reasons they wouldn't let me administer it myself is because of the cost.

when it's used for fertility procedures, it's a much smaller dose (microdose) with a tiny tiny tiny needle, so those are self-administered. that's the only time it should be allowed.
