Dawn, I think anytime you are dealing with a suggestion of surgery it is a good idea to seek s second opinion. Your doctor may be thinking it would be necessary to remove your ovaries because they produce estrogen, which can drive the growth of endometriosis. That said, there is quite alot of discussion about the fact that a hysterectomy is not a cure for endo. Many women have had successful results, but many have also had there endo return not long after the proceedure. That is something to carefully weigh. There are a couple of books that are distributed by the Endometriosis Association. You can go to their web site to check out the titles. They discuss various options for endo treatments, including the pros and cons of having a hysterectomy. I believe they can be ordered through the association, but I got mine through amazon.com As for the drugs...your doc probably thinks he is providing you with something strong enough to manage your pain. It has been my experience that milder drugs often can't stand up to the intensity of endo pain. Try asking him for something milder such as Darvocet. I take that and it doesn't constipate me, but it also doesn't really relieve my pain. Unfortunately pain management can be a catch 22. If you still don't like how they are making you feel, maybe you can investigate some alternative pain management options. I tried acupuncture and it worked well for me. There are also books regarding the "endo diet" which suggest foods to stay away from to minimize endo pain. Try not to freak yourself out too much about the "c" word. I know it is impossible not to imagine the worst when your body is going hay wire. I am sure everything will be alright and I hope your doctor will provide some answers. Alyson
