Cerazette and endometriosis and no pain.From: Sam (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Jun 12 04:07:20 2006
I have had endometriosis from the age of 31 and I'm now 44. Provera was first treatment - it worked but lasted only 6 months.(put on weight and got hairy!) Laser surgery was good but lasted only two years (it was bliss.) This was 5 years ago and since, evening primrose, magnesium, b vitamins, virtually no alcohol and 15 hours exercise a week & a good diet have helped.(walk dogs and play tennis - no gruelling gym etc..) But as you know often you're fighting a losing battle. Voltarol reduces the pain a little so I can walk but certainly NOT work or go out. Cerazette (for me) so far has been a godsend. Being a (fairly new) POP which stops ovulation (in 97% of cases) I am hoping it will rid me of endometriosis - for the time being it has. I have had no pain and only two days of spotting. The first week I was mildly "down" - this has gone (but I do not generally suffer from moods etc.. and fairly upbeat on the whole). I had read about some of the causes of spotting from fragility of blood vessels in the uterus etc. so have taken a bioflavanoid complex (rutin etc..) which may or may not have helped and I've had hardly any. In trials I think it was 50% of women stopped periods altogether after a year of use. For me so far it has : improved my skin/ made no difference to my mood/ rid me of pain/ stopped the bleeding/ made me hungry!!!! but I have been careful so have even lost a little weight (just 2lbs!) and generally given me my life back. I am hoping it does not cause any ovarian cysts and that it continues to work - I'll keep you posted. It won't be for everyone - many don't stay the course - but it has to be the lesser of all the treatments? It doesn't work for all - many stop taking it through continual spotting and certainly not for those with depression it seems... but if your GP thinks you are a good candidate and at an age where the OCP is not a great idea then perhaps it would be worth a go.
