FINALLY GOT MY PERIOD!!! (AND MY LUPRON EXPERIENCE)From: Alexis (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Jun 10 08:56:35 2006
I am jumping around like crazy - I am so happy. Double edged sword though - happy but in pain...oh how I remember this pain! For once I actually have a red period though (can't think of ever having a red period in my entire life...always black or dark brown...sorry if that's too much information)!!! So, for you Lupron users, my last shot was April 3rd, and today is June 10th...that's a little bit over two months for my period to return. Hopefully my weight starts to drop (now that I know I have estrogen), and hopefully my breasts return to their normal size as well. My hot flashes haven't disappeared 100%...I would say that every 4th night or so I wake up flashy. Much better than every hour though! I have mixed feelings about Lupron. While I was on it, it did work. It stopped my period and no period no pain. That being said I don't if it work for the entire time that I was on it. By month four I started having lower right quadrant pain, but my doctor couldn't confirm if it was endo or GI related (seeing a GI doc soon). So, if it's GI related, the Lupron was doing it's job. My side affets included hot flashes, night sweats, increased emotional sensitivity, weight gain (started Lupron at 120 and I'm now at 138), and breast shrinkage (was FF, and am now DD). Honestly, the weight gain really bothers me because I am not very tall. I work out A LOT with a personal trainer and there is no reason for this weight gain (no it wasn't muscle that caused me to increase in weight), clothes don't fit and I definitely gained that infamous "Lupron Belly". The majority of the weight gain occured in the last two months of treatment, and after my last shot. I've been told that this is normal...I'm now waiting for me to return to my normal size. I'll keep exercising and eating well...hopefully that helps. Would I do Lupron again? Yes. If I get to the point where pain is running my life and I am not able to enjoy my family and friends, I will do Lupron again, despite the side affects. Yes, the side affects were annoying, and down right frustrating, but for the last 7 months I have been able to spend time with my friends and family without worrying about how much pain I was in. For me, it gave me part of my life back. I am hoping that the next year or so is okay for me. I know I'll be having another surgery, once we confirm how much endo has taken over my bowels (resection), but aside from that I am thinking positively and hoping that my body is able to heal. Also, I just recieved amazing news from Dr. Sinervo at the CEC. Just recently, an Ontario endo patient received OHIP (our provincial coverage) to be treated at his centre in Atlanta. I am so amazingly happy right now that I am actually crying as I type this. He also told me of two Dr.'s in this province that practice excision surgery. However, if he can treat me (covered by OHIP), I will see him in a heart beat. All of the travel expenses in the world would be worth it! Thanks everyone!
