Re: Does Your OBGYN/Doctor Understand... Really?

Kris, I have long thought that just as much emhasis needs to be placed on educating doctors about this disease as finding a cure for it. It is astounding how many doctors are completely ambivolent to the disease, undereducated about it, or still prescribing treatment based on outdated theories. Not to mention the current trend of writing prescriptions as a means for diagnosis. What ever happened to diagnosis, then treatment?? My personal opinion is that gynecology is what ObGyn's practice to pay the bills so they can deliver babies. They are up to date on how to deliver a child because they'll get their pants sued off if something goes wrong. I read a statistic recently that the average woman diagnosed with endo will see as many as five doctors before receiving the correct diagnosis. That's insane! I know there are good doctors out there, but as you said...this disease is potentially the most common and devastating disease affecting womens health today and yet the most difficult to get diagnosed. I find that inexcusable.

We shouldn't have to hop from doctor to doctor and over again to find the needle in the hay stack. Sorry for the diatribe...it makes me crazy. If I ever win the lottery it truely will be my mission to make sure all OBGyn's are in possession of the most up to date information regarding this disease. Heck, they should have to attend training seminars as far as I'm concerned!

Whew! Good luck to all you ladies!! Alyson
