Hi Teresa,
First of all, good job with the man! If he's waiting on you hand and foot he's a keeper! ;)
Second, after one of my laparotomies I didn't have a bm for over two weeks. I took my colace and drank coffee, ate well, blah blah... nothing worked until I tried the Milk of 'Muck' (Magnesia?). The stuff is horrid, but it worked. I guess those of us that have gone through the bowel prep can handle anything though! (God bless you Loretta)
Good luck with everything! I'd say 'speedy recovery', but.... just take your time!
