-- Hi Theressa That clears that up for me, thanks. I get confused when one says Lap. A Lap can refer to a Laparotomy OR a Laparoscopy, each very different as you know, but some are not aware of the Lap meanings. I have to read of what the surgery was for and try to judge by that, however, so many surgeries now that used to be performed by a laparotomy are now being done by Laparoscopy, so it is hard now to tell. I see, as I, you started all this way too young. We barely had a chance to ever know what a period was like with out severe and crushing pain. I went to school with my friends of my age of 15, who were all excited to have their periods. I at 9 started, and by 15 was drowning in pain, they were celebrating having it and being a woman, I was praying I would have it no more and stayed home from school curled up in bed, in severe pain, from what I soon learned was endo and ovarian cysts. It is to bad we never got to celebrate what should have been a lovely experience. Instead we came into Womanhood crying out in pain. You have been through a lot of surgery's as well. I understand. Once you have had a few some say, why are you scared, you have had SO many already, you should be a pro! I don't know about you or if it is only b/c in my 10 th surgery I had anaphylactic shock when they first opened me on the table, but I find every one I have had, I get more and more nervous. I wonder if that is usual? But I do, the more I have, the worst it is for me. So if that is normal, or you are anything like that and can relate, I HEAR YOU, I understand you are scared. I think too it is that we know so well what recovery is like and it seems to take a little longer with each one to just pop back into shape and get back at it. And the older we get the harder it all is on our bodies. But on the bright side..... We know all that! We know how to make it through and get up and going so we will heal faster, not lay in bed and get stiff and sore. We know how to treat our stitches, get up easier, cough with a pillow, sneeze so we don't feel we are popping open!....and, we know to have everything done and in place when we get home to make life a little easier when we do. I don't know about you but after so many, I now play games with the anesthesiologist,(SP)!, I see just how long I can leave my eyes open, or get through telling him a joke. I feel if I make personal contact with every member in the O.R , and I make them laugh and see I am not just another body on the slab that day, my chances they will all take better care of me will increase dramatically!! So, I really go for making them remember and like me just before they put me out! Remember a great joke when you go in, if you don't make it awake long enough to tell the punch line, I have had him come to post op when I am waking up so he gets the punch line! GOOD reason to keep me alive if it is a good enough joke! LOl.
