Re: Seasonale????From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat May 20 19:41:15 2006
Hi, I was reading up a little because I may need to change medications. I have taken seasonale for a year and a half after my endo was diagnosed. My doctors solution to the continued and worsening period paid was to skip the placebo week. That has solved the problem, but there is another one... I always read the pamphlets (thank god)and noticed that seasonale had an increased risk for blood clots. I broke my leg three months ago, when the leg pain became worse than when I broke it after a month in the cast (it also felt like high blood pressure), I went to the ortho DR. and said I thought I had a blood clot in my leg and that the birth contol increased my risk. He was in a rush on a Friday after a late surgery and said that I was fine-deal with the pain, it was less than a one percent chance. The next night my leg started feeling better but my chest started hurting and couldnt breathe. I knew what is was-my husband rushed me to the ER and I did have a blood clot which broke free and traveled to my lungs (pulmonary embolism). I was in the hospital a week on heparin and coumadin and was in really bad shape (no breath sounds in my lungs). I am still on anti-coagulants but need to change treatment for my endo (which stinks because it was working great). My advice is to talk to your doctor, if they dont listen to you go to a better doctor, and also educate yourself about the risks associated with your treatment, if the doctor (ortho)listened to me I wouldnt have almost died. Thankfully the ER trusted me and treated it quickly, before it went to my heart or brain. The broken leg increased my risk or a clot though-I am not saying that you will have them, it stated that in the pamphlet that any prolonged period of immobilization increased the risk by reducing the blood flow, not only that but when you damge an area blood escapes and swelling occurs which also reduces the flow-so it was almost like a freak occurance. I dont want you to think I am trying to scare you because the Seasonale worked great when I skipped the placebo week and dont want to try in vain to find something else that may not work, it was such a relief after years of suffering, even though I am only 25. Good luck, and any suggestions on different treatments would be greatly appreciated (besides Lupron-when the doctor suggested that I said I would rather the hysterectomy)
