Re: Just DX with ENDO: What do you think is best HRT

Pamela, My understanding is that hormone "replacement" is for use when taking Lupron to counteract some of the side effects. Your estrogen completely plumets when on Lupron, so the doc may provide a very low dose hormone to give you a little estrogen back and ease off the menopausal side effects. The hormone replacement is not an endo treatment. Lupron and other drugs used to treat endo function to supress your estrogen production. The thought is that estrogen drives the endometriosis and by supressing the estrogen the endo is not being "fed". Other treatments include birth control pills, progestins (I took Aygestin), Danazol (testosterone derivative, I'm currently taking this one), and others. The kicker is that you can't get pregnant while taking any of these drugs. You will have to go "cold turkey" without any hormone treatments. The good news...my doctor told me that the best time to try to conceive is within 4-6 months following a laproscopy. I assume he meant that everything is cleared out of there and you shouldn't have any "interference". The other thing I want to mention is in reference to your doctor's statement that "you shouldn't have any problems". Endometriosis is a progressive disease, there is no cure. It often returns within some time following surgery. The goal is usually to control it with some type of hormone supression to keep it "at bay".
