Dearest Shell and Elaine A thought on letter writing. From: loretta (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Apr 26 02:43:08 2006
Dearest Elaine and Shell. The idea of writing the letter is an excellent one. Funny that this has come up again for me this week. I was thinking back to a few years ago when I was seeing MANY Dr's trying to find the right one to help, as well those Dr's where sending me to specialist, surgeons, psychotherapists..... I got SO TIRED of telling my story that I found I was shortening it so much I was leaving out important details, as well I was getting so depressed and tired I would start bawling as I for the 100th time re told it again. I finally sat and wrote a bio. I also included a page of all the tests I had had, and surgery's, as well as diagnosis, treatments , med's, results, allergies, and dates. and a list of what worked and didn't. The first time I presented it the Dr frowned and said he didn't have time to read it. I told him it would take the same amount of time for me to tell him everything and this was far more accurate as I always left something out. I re read it and found it was too long so I made it very simple to read, mostly point form, and I kept it very organized and titled and subtitled for different categories such as one for meds, and the list, then one for surgery's, followed by the list, of them and dated, Dr's etc.. When I got it right I explained at the beginning of my visit to the new Dr's that I wrote this as I was very intent on being as accurate as possible and I didn't want to waist his/her valuable time by leaving out things I should mention and he needed to know as I tended to not remember everything I should. It worked like a charm and they always took copy's for my files and had that info at their fingertips. As well they could never say they didn't know this or that as it ALL was there. I am thinking again of doing another to take with me in my purse for the times I end up at the hospital etc.. as when I am in pain or in a new place I am scattered and upset, In Emerg especially it would be handy for that Dr to have. This worked so well before I will do it again. Just thought I would pass that along. I am praying the two of you find the help and finances that are needed and that you have pain free day's, help, support and love. Health"n"Healing, Loretta
