Re: The gas they use during surgeryFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Mar 31 00:01:35 2006
The best way to keep the shoulder pain that occurs from the CO2 used during laparoscopy from becoming an issue afterward is for the dr to remove it all after they are done. When I had my very first laparoscopy (as I later found out) the dr didn't remove all the CO2 that was used during the surgery which is why I ended up with the shoulder pain and I found that even the pain meds didn't help that. A heating pad however did a better job. With my last two surgeries the dr I have now made sure I had no shoulder pain. And that was b/c she removed the CO2. When I had my first surgery with her (but second overall) and came home I was expecting there to be shoulder pain but there was none.
