JoCee, Endo is not thick enough to see on a barium x-ray. It would be thick enough to see with colonoscopy if the endo has eaten thru all the layers of the colon. This is the same reason why ultraound can not be used as a diagnostic tool for endo lesions. Endometriomas may show up on ultrasounds but that is not indicative of a diagnosis of endo. There are a number of drs still out there that don't know that you can't diagnose endo on ultrasound. And it is true that we women with endo are prone to other cancers as well as other health issues such as RA and Lupus and even fibro (for some they get it b/c of the Lupron). Sdsuey, I've read some info that says it is the lining of the uterus that goes outside the uterus and in to the other areas but as of late what I've read has said that it is like the lining of the uterus. I think this is one other reason why we still don't understand what causes endo. I recommend everyone check out the book Endometriosis: The Complete Reference for Taking Charge of Your Health by Mary Lou Ballweg and EA. There's a ton of interesting info in there. It was in part b/c of this book that I learned that endo isn't just a gyn disorder as I had thought for such a long time.
