I´m Back. No operation. Daughter still with tumorFrom: Alexandra (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Mar 16 07:53:20 2006
Hello all: First of all, thanks a lot for your concerns and prayers. You helped me a lot, for I knew I wasn´t alone. We went to Houston and first consulted with an oncologist specialized in tumors in the central nervous system. He said the tumor had to be operated, but that it looked low grade (benign), wouln´t know until it was out. Next day the neurosurgeon told us he didn´t think there was any need for the operation since the tumor was really small, seemed low grade and wasn´t presenting any clinical simptoms. The headaches are most probably childhood mygranes that helped find the tumor. (An inicidental finding in medical terms). But the decision would be made in the "Tumor board" next day. Come next day, the Board couldn´t get a consensous. They told us it was our decision. The sort of recomended to watchful waiting. To make an MRI every two months and if it grew or changed its nature then we would operate. "But it is your decision" we heard again and again. We held a follow up with the oncologist. Then in despair I through myself to the floor. I prayed with all my heart and soul. I asked God to tell us what to do, for we could not make the decision. We aren´t even doctors!! I asked God to use the neurosurgeon as His messenger and to make it "as clear as water".The next day finally the doctor could talk to us for a few minutes. He was... "as clear as water". "If you operate now there is a high risk because there is a cluster of veins really close to the tumor. If some complications arise, you will not be able to live with yourselves knowing it wasn´t absolutely necessary. If you wait, and the tumor grows, you will not have any other option but to operate, any complications wiould be acceptable knowing you had no choice. IF SHE WAS MY DAUGHTER I WOULDN´T OPERATE." Thank you God, you listened and delivered!! So we are back. We are still extremely anxious, and nervous. But wi will have to learn to live with it. My daugther is doing fine, she is very perceptive and was anxious in her own way. I must tell you all that this experiene changed all of our lives, and will continue to change them. Sorry for the lenght, will talk to you soon,
-- Alexandra. (Guatemala)
