Stephanie, I am on Aygestin, a progestin that I take daily....so no period-ever! (unless I go off the meds of course). Essentially it shuts your ovaries down, but not as drastically as Lupron. The only real side effects I've experienced is minor weight gain (I feel the need to eat like a horse)and very mild acne. I can't say that I am totally pain free, in fact I have started to have problems again. It was something that I felt was a good alternative to Lupron. I have also been investigating Letrozole (Femara) and there is a drug called Cetrotide (or Cetrorelix) that I think is not very easy to get right now. I don't know if it is still in testing or just so new that it has limited availability. My understanding is that it is the same class of drug as Lupron, but doesn't seem to carry the side effects. Anyway, the Aygestin may be worth trying as a first step. If it works for you, great! If not you can bump up to something stronger. Good luck, Alyson
