Re: Help!!! Should i have the lap???From: Jenny (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Feb 28 09:59:47 2006
Rees, if I could do it over again, I'm not really sure if I would have pushed for a lap at 16-18 yrs old. On one hand if I had, I may have saved myself from a lot of pain. On the other hand it pretty much does seem to grow back so it is putting yourself through more surgeries through your life. When I was about 18 my symptons were very similar to yours. You seem maybe a little worse off than I was (with the 3 month long bleeding). I'm 32 now and I've had cramps everyday for 13 months. I had a lap 6 months ago and it didn't stop the pain. Either my exdoc missed some of it or - well I'm not really sure. But what the surgery did for me was diagnose me with endo which is very important! I think what is important is to fing a good obgyn. Yoy need to speak out for yourself and that is very hard when you are 16, female, in pain, and dealing with doctors. Doctors don't know much about endo and especially don't really seem to be in tuned to our pelvic pain issues. Don't just take my word for it but if I were you, I would try one or two other ideas to treat yout pain (diff. birth control/pain reliever) and I would prepare myself to have a lap in the next couple of years. But I think you need to research and find a good doctor you trust. Try to get your mom on board by printing off some info about endo for her. Hope I'm not all doom and gloom for you. You may not turn out like me because we are all different. ~ Jenny
