A Review of '' Endometriosis-The Inside Story''From: B.Browne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Feb 7 08:12:59 2006
A Review of: "Endometriosis: The Inside Story" Directed by Harvey Spencer. Written by Monica M. Flores and Harvey Spencer. Australian Producer: Elizabeth Belle Browne. US Producer/Co-Director: Monica M. Flores. Copyright Lusian Pty Ltd & MMM Productions. Duration: 48 minutes. If you or someone you love has this disease, this video is for you. In this groundbreaking video, we go from Syndey, Australia to Austin, Texas and learn the painfully familiar stories of two women with Endometriosis, Belle and Monica. Their stories are our stories. In this information-packed video, Belle and Monica take us through all facets of this life-altering disease. We are reminded that simply because a women with Endometriosis doesn't look sick or in pain, it does not mean that she isn't. The film also reaffirms the need for more research on Endometriosis, better treatments for the disease, more awareness throughout society about Endometriosis, and ultimately, the need for a cure. Viewers will learn in simple terms what Endometriosis is, what it looks like, what some accepted theories of cause are, treatment options, types of surgery, how it can affect the entire scope of an Endometriosis patient's life and so much more. We are given personal experiences from women in support groups on both sides of the world, who all tell a different yet similar tale. Everything from relationships to coping strategies are discussed by the women who have told their stories in order to benefit other women with the disease. Myths are debunked and empowerment is gained through the knowledge shared in this video. We are given the benefit of learning from some of the world leaders in the treatment of the disease; David Redwine, MD, Geoff Reid, MD, Professor Carl Wood, and Robert Franklin, MD, just to name a few. Each expert shares his own knowledge and expertise on the disease, some of whom have intimate knowledge of Endometriosis: they are married to women with the disease. In fact, Debbie Redwine herself shares her own familiar story of the pain and frustration that many of us know so well. Also sharing encouragement and empowerment are Endometriosis organization leaders, including Mary Lou Ballweg (US) and Lorraine Henderson (NZ). These courageous women remind us to take charge of our own healthcare and to be active in our own courses of Endometriosis treatment. This video exemplifies the importance of mutual support and what can be accomplished when Endosisters work together. The internet remains a source of extensive education about the disease and provides many, many outlets for support and information exchange between Endometriosis patients. We are reminded to take advantage of the opportunities that modern-day technology holds for us when coping with this sometimes - debilitating disease. Help is out there. Relationship disruptions and infertility are a big part of life with Endometriosis. Belle and Monica were not exempt from these heartbreaking issues, but stoically shared their stories with us to remind viewers that no woman with Endometriosis is alone. Their stories also showed us that their can be a miracle waiting to happen; a light at the end of the tunnel. Most importantly, the message that "Endometriosis: The Inside Story" gets across is that we can have Endometriosis and still be strong, empowered women. We must be our own advocates; we must educate ourselves and others and be partners in our healthcare. Get involved, share what you know, learn what you don't. Make a difference for yourself and all those living with the disease. We deserve the best treatment possible, and should accept nothing less. There is life after Endometriosis.
