Becca,

Have you tried Colace yet? It's a stool softener. Ask your dr when you speak to him/her if it's ok for you to try this. Let that nurse know that you absolutely want to speak to your dr directly.

When it comes to the gas left behind it's b/c the dr didn't take it (the CO2, this is what they use to inflate the abdominal area and causes all those organs to move toward the upper area after the table is tilted) all out. Taking all the CO2 out prevents the shoulder pain (for those that have had this, I did with my very first surgery in 1997). With my surgeries in 1999 and 2003 I didn't have any gas left behind b/c my dr removed it all. For those that are having the shoulder pain a heating pad can be helpful in addition to the walking.

It can take the bowel some time to wake up from the anesthesia but it should only take about 3 or 4 days for that to happen. But for sure talk to your dr.

Pls let us know what the dr says.
