Re: Has anyone ever had Polycistic Ovarian SyndromeFrom: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Jan 20 09:23:12 2006
Toni, I was diagnosed with PCOS right before I was diagnosed with endo. I had seen several doctors trying to get an answer as to why I do not have a period on my own (i.e. when I'm not on the pill). I was finally diagnosed via an ultrasound showing my ovaries covered in small cysts where my eggs were not able to "get out". Were you also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes? I know it is common for women with PCOS to have diabetes and I was checked for that, but not given any medication. I am not trying to conceive, so my OBGYN is not treating the PCOS currently. My mother also has/had PCOS. She was given Clomid (sp?) to help her ovulate to conceive me. Typically PCOS resolves itself after pregnancy. My mom had my brother and sister after she had me without needing any fertility treatments or help ovulating. Her periods have been regular ever since. But...she doesn't have endometriosis, which throws another wrench into things. I would ask your ObGyn to refer you to a fertility specialist if you have trouble conceiving. WebMD has some good information about PCOS if you want to search there. It cleared up alot of questions for me. Alyson
