Andrea: When I read your post, I had to write. I am a 43 y.o. nurse. Never had children. Periods always regular with minimal discomfort to speak of. My story begins in August 2005. One day I suddenly had a few itchy spots on my upper abdomen. Looked like pimples but they itched. Within a week my entire abdomen was covered in these itchy spots. I thought, as a nurse that maybe I was exposed to some type of fungus at work. Bought some Lamisil cream. It relieved the itching and the abdomen slooooowly began to heal. But meanwhile, my back became covered as well as spots on my arms, legs, neck, chest, armpits, feet, scalp, face, ear lobes, even the palms of my hands itched and had those raised red spots. I was miserable. After I stopped treating my abdomen with the Lamisil cream because they went away, they returned within a week. I went to the dermatologist and he said I had a systemic allergic reaction. He said no to fungus, bacterial and wasn't sure what caused it. He gave me a steroid shot and said I would feel better within 2 days. Also he prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment, 0.1% to be applied to all spots. I tell you what, he saved me. The spots started to fade within a couple of days. The ointment helped relieve itching as well. Part 2 of my story now... in November I had a 9 day period. Very strange for me. December I had 2 week period! I went to the gynecologist. He examined me and said I was full of fibroids. Vaginal ultrasound showed my uterus was the size of a 4 month pregnancy. He also saw ovarian cysts on both ovaries. Part 3 of my story... Jan 10, 2006. Complete hysterectomy along with both ovaries and my tubes, as well. Everything gone. He explained that I had one of the worst cases he has ever seen of endometriosis. I had adhesions all over the place. My bladder was "stuck" onto my pelvis wall. A complete mess. He saw endometrial growths and got rid if it as best he could. He is not putting me on HRT because he wants to be sure the endometriosis dies out. Estrogen feeds those cells. He said it takes about 3 months without estrogen and we can evaluate any menopause symptoms I might get and decide what to do from there. I am convinced that the itchy rash that I had in August/Sept. was an allergic response from the endometriosis getting out of control. So I will try to avoid HRT as long as I can. I am 9 days post op. Incidentally, I had to have 4 units of blood transfused due to the bleeding endo growths and such during my surgery. I am hanging in there. Pelvic swelling, some pelvic pain associated with body positioning, bowel pain plagues me. Hope I have shed some light for you. Bren
