Re: Scheduled for 1st lapFrom: Laura (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jan 19 12:09:15 2006
Hi J. I can't really tell you what you should expect because everyone has different reactions to surgery, and some are more serious than others. Now i can tell you how it was for me and maybe that will help you feel more relaxed with the whole surgery thing. May 19th of last year i went in for my first lap and was expecting to come out in excruciating pain. I was so nervous that when i walked into the operating room i freaked out and started balling my eyes out. After the surgery in the recovery room i woke up scared because i didn't know where i was at, but when the nurse walked over to me i remembered. I had an oxygen mask on, which they took off a few minutes later. When i first woke up i had some pain, but a lot of pressure. As they wheeled me back to my room the pressure was starting to ease, and then i didn't feel so bad. They immediately gave me crackers and juice because i get very sick when on anestesia, and to my surprise i felt pretty good. About an hour later i was on my way home with some pain, but not too bad. The next couple of days were a little rough, especially at night. Its so uncomfortable when all you can do is lay on your back. But pain wise, it was nothing i couldn't handle. I think the pain i got with my period was a lot worse. Anyway i was back to work about a week in a half later. Normally people are back before than, but it took me a little while longer to be able to walk straight and not hunched over. And being that i work with children i couldn't go back too soon. All in all it wasn't bad for me and hopefully it will be the same for you. I hope it all works out for you and you will be in my prayers. God Bless, Laura M. P.S. Sorry it's so long. Once i start writing i can't stop:-)
