a slightly different look on diet

I keep seeing a lot of posts about how giving up meat, dairy, wheat, etc, etc can relieve your symptoms. I am both happy for those it works for and frustrated because it is not a "Cure-all" by any means and has not worked for me.

I have been a strict vegetarian for 30 of my 34 years. Apparently when I was four I declared to my parents I was never eating meat again and I never have. I do not eat dairy products and my wheat intake is quite limited since my daughter is unable to eat it. The main staples of my diet include brown rice, veggies and locally grown fruits - sticking to organic where possible.

This has been my lifestyle since I can remember and I am now suffering the worst endo symptoms. I will soon be having a bowel resection, bladder resection and presacral neurectomy in spite of all my efforts to be healthy. I have been to the chiropractor, naturopath, homeopath and have used herbs. I have spent thousands of dollars on natural cures in an effort to rid myself of the symptoms and now am forced to take painkillers for the first time in my life just to be able to have some quality of life.

One doctor I saw who is an ob/gyn and also happens to believe in nutrition and the 'endo diet' blamed me for my symptoms perhaps thinking I was cheating on the diet when this is the only diet I've ever lived by.

My post is by no means meant to discourage anyone from trying it. It is a much healthier way to live for your overall health anyway. I just don't want any woman to think that it is a cure or to feel bad if it doesn't work for her. Endometriosis is a very individual disease and what works for one woman may or may not work for the next. Unfortunately, we have to learn as much as possible and then find our own way to what works for us....

Healing wishes to all of my endo sisters....
