I think its kind of an "old wives tale". Women who have trouble with bladder infections or UTI's typically are not supposed to take baths or if they do, not to use soaps, perfumed products etc. so as not to irritate the urethra. As far as having your period, I too find that I do not bleed in the bath....and really if you do, who cares? I almost always rinse off with a quick shower just because I'm weird about not being able to really rinse the soap off my skin.... Your muscles at the opening of the vagina naturally keep it closed, so it is unlikely that you will get anything in there unless you make an effort at it. I don't think it is any different to have a tampon in while in the bath than in the swimming pool or ocean, just not really necessary. (of course this is my somewhat unscientific opinion) Alyson
