Re: Centrum instead of Prenatal Vitamins

I am currently trying to get pregnant -- I read an article in Conceive magazine about vitamins while trying and such. According to the magazine, even a kid's chewable is good (Flintstones). My doc told me that while I'm trying to make sure that my vitamin has at least 400 mcg of folic acid...mine have exaclty 400 (they're the generic kids vits. from target) -- I don't like swallowing pills so this works well for me. You can also find some over the counter prenatals that may have more folic acid -- and stores (like K-mart, etc.) sell ensure items for pregnant women, meant to supplement your pre-natals -- they have drinks and bars. I eat the bars already.

Anyway, I hope that helps...and of course, if you're already pregnant(which I'm assuming you are)...watch your diet, eat a lot of green leafy veggies (folic acid) and a lot of fluids...just be healthy in general.

And just so you know, my doc gave me a list of some items I should NOT eat once I'm pregnant (especially the first trimester) and my sister in law is pregnant, but was not told these things...so as over cautious as it may be -- try to avoid lunch meats and hot dogs (processed), certain processed cheeses, no sushi and avoid certain fish (tuna is okay and I don't remember what else, because I don't eat seafood).

Okay, well good luck to you and take good care of yourself.
