I am so sorry to hear you lost your job! What a bummer, especially this time of year! You certainly aren't alone in this though. I too lost a job I really loved several years ago due to excessive absenteism. At the time I didn't even know it was endometriosis I was dealing with, just that I was in constant pain and running back and forth between the gastroenterologist, ER, endocrinologist, internists, and gynecologists. So I didn't even have a diagnosis to go on yet, aside from the stupid IBS label because they couldn't find anything. Finally a gyn did a lap and found severe endo all over. This was after five years of trying to figure out the pain. I found another job but after three years there I left because again I was missing work and they were already short handed. I just couldn't deal with the stress. I moved in with my boyfriend to save money and now work a job that is less stressful and not as dependant on my being there but it is low paying, physically demanding, and not very satisfying. It's really sad that endometriosis has to control how we live and the decisions that we make. It isn't fair!! I too had to drop out of college and I am financially strapped due to medical bills. I even went as far as having a complete hysterectomy at 33 years of age to get rid of the miserable pain. Now I am suffering terribly with surgical menopause and STILL IN PAIN!!! The gyn didn't remove the endo from my bladder, intestines, or appendix. So it's back to square one. I can barely handle this new job and have again missed a ton of work. But lucky for me I am protected by a union so they can't outright fire me. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you but I don't unfortunately. Just know that you aren't alone in this. Maybe you could seek legal aid and get an opinion on a course of action. It's not like your absenteism was due to irresponsibility. They have to take disability into account! For me I was too exhausted and depressed to fight for my job back. I went to a temp agency for a while until I got in full time somewhere. Now I have to consider whether I can keep working full time or go to part time for a while due to chronic illness again. Sometimes life can seem so bleak but if you hang in there something better will come along. Good luck to you and I hope that your life turns around for you. Don't give up! We are here for you anytime you need to talk. Take care!
