If you do, indeed, have the same thing that I had, they'll do what's called a colposcopy to remove the precancerous cells. (They freeze them off, I think.) Some women can have this done while they're awake, but I had to be knocked out because of where the mutated cells were located on my cervix. I was sore for a few days, but it sure beat cancer. I think that I read that about 70% of adults who have been sexually active have HPV. It doesn't make men sick at all, but it causes virtually all cervical cancer. Now I don't hesitate to get my pap smears! It's unpleasant, but it's better than cancer. If they find it early, it's just an outpatient surgery and it doesn't become cancer. So, don't panic. If your doc tells you that you need a colposcopy, do it! Take care.
