You're probably going to have to experiment a bit to find what works for you but here are some things to try:

Prop yourself on as many pillows as you can arranged like a nest so that your head, neck, shoulders and upper back are supported and you are relaxed, not tensed. Prop some pillows or a rolled blanket under your kneeds for your lower back!

Ice packs on my shoulder helped more than heat but I've seen some women say that heat helped more than ice. Try one, if it doesn't feel good then try the other.

Tums, Rolaids, Maalox or other gas relief products will sometimes help.

Don't run overtime on your pain medication. If it says to take it every 6 hours then take it every 6 hours even if it means setting an alarm in the middle of the night. Keeping a steady blood-level of medication is the best way to get that medication to work for you.

Not everyone gets the shoulder pain, it largely depends upon the surgeon's technique. You should also ask what will be done to prevent adhesions.

speedy recovery to you!
