I can't remember exactly how long it took for the headaches to stop. My shots came in two month intervals and after the second shot (December 04) I believe it was sometime in March 05 that the headaches finally subsided. Were you on the three month shot? It probably takes a good month in addition to the timeframe of the shot for the Lupron to totally clear out of your system. It also depends on how long you were on it. It doesnt sound like you were on it that long, so that is an encouraging sign. I have heard some women who took Lupron for over six months to a year say that they still have lasting side effects from the lupron for up to a year afterwards. Everyone responds differently to Lupron so I can't give you any clear cut answers. I do know how awful those headaches are.

The headaches can also be a symptom of low estrogen (obviously the Lupron causes the ovaries to temporarily shut down). What kind of addback therapy were you on? Was it a Progestin or estrogen? If it was the latter, that may also have contributed to the headaches, especially if it was synthetic estrogen. I am learning this from taking a synthetic estrogen replacement called Estratest because of a hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries. My headaches worsened when my dose was increased. Estrogen unopposed by progesterone, and also synthetic estrogen (which the body doesn't recognize) can cause headaches as a side effect.

I have done some research and read that taking Progesterone or synthetic Progestin can sometimes alleviate headaches that are hormonally related. It has an anti inflammatory effect. It is also used alone to treat endometriosis. You may want to consider finding a doctor that would prescribe this for you. It may help alleviate those headaches (and your endo!) while your hormone levels adjust back to their normal state. I was prescribed Norethindrone (synthetic Progestin) for addback while on Lupron and though it helped the headaches, it caused me such horrible nausea that I had to go off it. That was just my experience. I don't do well with synthetic anything, including birth control! I also tried taking natural progesterone cream over the counter but it did nothing for me. Your best bet is a prescription strength progesterone (made by a reputable pharmacy so you know what is really in it) prescribed by a doctor. In my case my gyn wont give it to me now because he doesn't think I need progesterone without a uterus. He is one of those old school types. I know for me I tried every kind of painkiller for the headaches and nothing helped. I tried IbProfen up to 800mg, Napraxon, Tylenol, Imitrex, and countless others with no relief. What I really needed was my hormones back! Ditto for this round of headaches. Hope this info helps and I did not totally confuse you. I am really tired right now and can't think straight.
