Re: Anyone in menopause? I am using the best med, and I am only 29!

I am glad you found something that is working for you! I also had a hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries two months ago (been almost ten weeks). I am 33 years old. The first four weeks I was on Estratest HS and had no problems. Then out of nowhere the menopausal symptoms hit, even on the estrogen replacement. I had not only hot flashes but muscle aches, extreme mood swings, headaches, insomnia, and crushing fatigue. After three weeks of dealing with this, I begged my doctor to increase the dose. While most of the symptoms have subsided, the headaches have gotten much worse! I am so frustrated! I believe that I still had some natural estrogen stored in my body for the first four weeks and then that was used up, hence the menopause. I am just telling you this because you are very early in your recovery and may still end up having to increase your dose or switch to something else. Hopefully that won't be the case but if it is then you will be prepared. I am curious as I have never heard of Estrogel. Is this a synthetic hormone or bioidentical? Do you take it orally or is it a sort of cream you apply? I am looking at different options myself so I could really use all the information I can get. Also, I read your other posts about pain and recovery time. At ten weeks I am able to do all the things I did before (lifting, running, etc...) but still experience some cramping in my lower abdominal area and occasional shooting pains in my groin. I am praying that this is just healing and not any remaining endo acting up but it sure feels like endo! I had these symptoms before but much more extreme pre hyst. My doctor did not remove any endo on my intestines, bladder, or appendix. That is a long story though which I won't get into here. I also opted to take hrt due to my age and awful menopausal effects I dealt with on Lupron. I sure hope it doesn't come back to haunt me in the future but I would rather take the risk as the menopause for me is just as bad as the endo, just different symptoms. I was pretty sore my first six weeks but only required pain meds for the first week. Of course, everyone is different so I can't say if my recovery time has been the norm. I also had horrible constipation and painful bowel movements for the first four weeks but that has gotten back to normal now. If you have any more questions or just want to talk, feel free to email me anytime. Also, have you ever heard of the website Hystersisters? This is an excellent place for information and support relating to hysterectomy. You may want to look in to this if you haven't already. I joined several months ago and this site has been my lifeline with recovery issues and hormonal issues. I come to this site here for more endometriosis specific problems. I hope everything works out for you!
