Re: For those who have been tested for intersititail cystisis--how difficult is the exam?

Hi, I have interstitial cystitis and my experience in getting tested was horrible, but my doctor was one of a few who did the procedure in a totally inhumane way. Nobody is supposed to have the procedure done without anesthesia, it is very very painful and I can say that from experience because I was tested with absolutely no sedation whatsoever. What they do is they fill up your bladder with fluid to a point that cannot be reached while awake because it is too painful, even for those who don't have IC. I myself was kicking and screaming and trying to jump off the table, it was like having to pee really bad, times that by 100, and then not being able to release because your pee hole is blocked. Yes, painful, very painful. Then they go in with a scope to see what the inside of the bladder looks like, and that's how they can tell whether you have IC or not. It is going to feel like you have to pee really really bad for the first day all day. It really burns to pee, because your bladder has been stretched and it's almost like a cut, so when your urine comes out of the bladder it burns for a few seconds. It's not too bad after the first part of the flow starts to come out. But after a few days you are back to normal and everything is okay.

Please Please Please make sure your urologist is going to put you under anesthesia!! Needless to say I never went back to that jerk after being diagnosed, and my new uro thinks he should be turned in to the state medical board for doing what he did to me, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. Overall if you have a good uro that is knowledgeable in IC and that is willing to take the time to treat you everything will be okay. Be sure to ask the uro anything and everything you want to know about the procedure. If you go onto http://www.ic-network.org, there is some really good information about the procedures they do and it is also very informational on IC. I know I already said this, but please make sure you are going to be put under anesthesia, and if this doc doesn't do it that way, please find one that does. It's not right to do it without anesthesia. I hope I answered your questions, if you'd like to talk more or if you need more information, please feel free to email me, amarion22@yahoo.com. Take care and good luck to you.....Amanda At Sun, 16 Oct 2005, m wrote: >
