I've taken care of several patients who have had a hysterectomy and I've not seen one with a colostomy at the same time post-operatively. The only reason I can possibly think of a person having a colostomy is if there's substantial amount of bowel involvement and colectomy (surgical removal of part of the bowel)is not possible.
