Re: IBS and diagnostic lap -- sanity checkFrom: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Sep 22 14:36:03 2005
Hareem, Before I was diagnosed with endo I was sent for a CAT Scan, sent to a GI- who sent me for a barium swallow and a colonoscopy. After all that came up clear I had a diagnostic lap during which my Gyn cauterized the endo she found. If you don't trust your doc, I wouldn't let her cut you open even for diagnostic purposes. Its still invasive and even a diagnostic lap with no treatment is going to involve some recovery time and pain. A lap can be an effective way to manage the disease initially if you find a doctor that you feel has the experience to treat it, whether its via excision or ablation (cauterization did nothing for me, and I'm going in for ablation in 2 weeks). It may be worth it to find someone you trust to go ahead with some type of treatment while you research the excision surgery, or wait to see Dr. Redwine. I just think it would stink to get cut open and go through that recovery just for a confirmation. Good luck to you! Alyson
