All posters please read...From: Lea (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Sep 6 14:35:45 2005
Ok ladies, After enjoying summer's last hurrah I came here this morning to check that the forum is still continuing to run smoothly and that questions are being asked and answers/advice is being offered only to find that once again the forum is dissolving into dissent. #1 The anonymous feature is there for the protection of privacy and everyone is encouraged to use it. Using it does not mean you are ashamed of who you are, it means you are taking advantage of our efforts to protect your privacy, it means that you understand all posts are being archived and will be available to Internet users everywhere at anytime forever. Not using the anonymous feature means that at some time in the future I will be getting an email from you begging to have your name and email address removed and in some cases threatening to sue us for violating your privacy. Please, use the anonymous feature or at least use a nickname for yourself and a web-based email such as yahoo.com or hotmail.com to protect yourself and your family. #2 To take the privacy protection one step further we wrote a program that makes your last name disappear automatically. However, revealing your full name, address, phone number or email address in the body of your message post will go undetected by the program. We urge you to use caution when doing so and strongly recommend against doing it altogether. #3 The US Constitution grants everyone the right to free speech in a public forum and most people take that to include the Internet. This endo forum is a private forum and we do have the right to monitor and edit your posts to conform with our own policies. Posts that are abusive, harrassing or inflammatory will be removed. Continued mis-use of this forum will result in your posting privileges being revoked. #4 OBGYN.net and EndometriosisZone.org own this forum. This forum is open to users around the world and it is very important that you know and respect this. The beliefs, treatment methods and medications discussed here are not always relevant to all posters. Religion should not be an issue here. Simply offering or asking for prayers is fine but please do not use the forum to hold religious discussions, debates or for posting passages from the bible or other religious media. Some of the women here have opened their own forums where this type of posting is welcome. All you need to do is post a message here asking for the address and I'm sure you'll receive a prompt reply. #5 Not every post requires a response. If you don't have an answer or don't agree with the information then ignore it and move on to the next message. If you see errors contained in posts from others then by all means, offer the information that you believe is correct but please do so in a manner that is not offensive to the original poster. #6 Please use the same social conscience and manners here as you would in a face-to-face conversation. If you wouldn't say the things you are typing to someone's face then don't say them here either. Be polite, be thoughtful and be courteous. Typing in all caps is the same as shouting. Capitalizing a word or phrase for emphasis is one thing but please be clear about why you are shouting that word or phrase. #7 Be prepared to be misunderstood and don't get defensive about it, just try to explain yourself more clearly. Remember, English is not everyone's first language here. Proper punctuation and spelling will help you avoid many misunderstandings. Try to avoid abbreviations unless you explain what the abbreviation is. When referring to medications try to include the drug name as well as the brand name so that even those in other countries can understand what you're talking about. Often the same drug is offered under different names in different countries. #8 Make use of the contents of OBGYN.net and EndometriosisZone.org there are many articles there for your use and most are offered in a printer-friendly format. You are your own best ally and advocate and educating yourself about your condition and all of the various treatment methods available will help you work with your doctor to find the best solution for you. Thank you all for your continued support through your active participation.
