Re: Please help meFrom: Claire (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Aug 31 16:47:22 2005
Hi Tara I am very new to endo with confirmed diagnosis after a lap 5 days ago. Prior to that I had relatively normal periods but started to get very achey in the legs and lower back, and some stabbing pains and heaviness on the lower right abdominal area. I also had bouts of diarreha (spelling) and constipation. For the last 4 months I've not felt 100% but was unsure why. When my specialist suggested endo I didn't really believe her because I always thought it affected your fertility. A week before my lap I found this website and I was amazed to see and learn that it was indeed probably endo that I actually had. From what I've learnt (and I am very new to endo - or knowing that I had it) endo can present itself in so many different ways and it doesn't necessarily mean heavy periods and excruciating pain. I had mild to moderate discomfort in the pelvic region/lower back/hip and down the legs which increased to almost every day that I felt it. Some just get the symptoms around their cycles. When my lap was done on Saturday the diagnosis was severe endometriosis with both left and right ovaries stuck to the pelvic sidewall (right was worse) I was shocked - my obgyn said - you are lucky you have your babies...(I have two young children - I am 35) You are doing the right thing by seeing your doctor, you will get a diagnosis and if you have medical insurance, then get a lap done. Its the only sure fire way of knowing. All my ultrasound scans showed up a perfect pelvis...... I am relieved that I had the lap done, I am still in discomfort from the lap 5 days on, but I know they also did extensive work inside me to remove the endo and to fix me up - so I expect to be not right for another week or so yet, but I am glad there was an outcome, there was a reason for my discomfort and at least I know what I am faced with. Not knowing was agonising for me. I thought I had Cancer. Now I just have to heal and then see my obgyn again and find a way of managing the endo and try to prevent it from returning. You will be fine - I wish you all the best and I hope you have found a bit of comfort from my post - even if just a little. Claire
