Surgery Success: Have Info

Hi there! I've been on the forum several times before when I was trying to get relief and I've in the past warned about Lupron (to be very careful when choosing this option). Just wanted to take some time to share my surgery success story for those wanting to go that route. Since 1998, I have undergone 4 surgeries, 1 round of Lupron (that was horrible for me), and rounds of Aygestin and BC pills (that were of some relief), but no long-tern relief from any. My last surgery I went with an infertility doctor (not an Endo Dr. like in the past) that aggreed to do an excision surgery (with no laser)to treat my Endo. Although I loved my former endo Dr., the laser surgery was not providing long-term relief, so under the assumption that excising the endo instead of burning it may be better, as no cells would be left to regenerate if cut out, I went for excision surgery. What a relief it has been. The excision surgery is started through a normal Lap., but has longer recovery and to me had a more painful healing process. Only if Dr. finds endo that he can't reach with Lap, will he do a Laperotomy (not spelled right) where he cuts across abdomen to access. After months of reading the most scientific and current journal articles on successful surgery options, including certain procedures, and at the advice of a well-known specialist in the field, I choose UNC Chapel Hill. UNC Chapel Hill in a teaching hospital, and had the most access to other quality professionals in areas that if my surgery wouldv'e taken a wrong turn, I may have needed. For instance, they have surgons for gastrointestinal and bladder issues, so if my endo had been detected in those areas, the one surgery would be sufficient to treat all affected areas at once (no need for multiple surgeries). On surgery # 4, you don't take any chances. Also: this Dr. covered these bases with requiring I go for testing with both dept.'s prior to surgery, and the bladder Dr. did a special test at the start of my surgery to detect a disease of the bladder that can have similar pain/symptoms of endo. When that was clear, they went ahead with surgery. Since surgery (June 2004), I have had no symptoms/pain return, which has been the longest I have ever gone without pain. I really believe that the excision surgery rather than the laser surgery is what did it this time. (hope too) So, below is the contact info for where I had my surgery. Reminder, I am in no way connected to this hospital/ Dr., I just had a great experience so far with the surgery and methods that this Dr. has provided. To my knowledge, he is a fertility Dr. and I am not sure if he even works with Endo on a regular basis, but he did beautifully so far, and he was highly recommended from Dr. Rock for using the same procedures. Dr. Rock also offered to do the surgery but he is in New Orleans. Ok, good luck to everyone and God bless. Dr. contact below, and if you'd like to contact me directly: avalimont@verizon.net

Contact Info: Dr. Rock advised me to see Dr. Bill Meyer (919) 966-1150 (919) 966-5287 Scheduling for Dr. Meyer: Nicole @ 919-966-4124 Rachel 919-843-1427 OR 919-843-1544 101 Manning Dr. Chapel Hill, NC. 27599-0001
