Re: New to Endo

Claire,
I understand your skepticism. I was diagnosed with endo last year
following a laproscopy. Prior to that I had confusing symptoms. I have
no children, in fact I rarely even had a period (which was later
diagnosed as polycystic ovaries). When I did have one it wasn't
pleasant, but not excruciating either. My pain felt like a little
stabbing in my ovaries. my doctor mentioned endo, I researched it and
thought "How can I have this when I don't even have a period?". I had
an ultra sound (in and out) which is when they discovered the polycystic
ovaries, followed by a CAT Scan, then an upper GI and lower GI scan,
then a colonoscopy! All this to rule out the possibility of an
intestinal issue, and all found nothing. I finally relented to the
laproscopy and sure enough there was the endo. It was large, well
established and all over my uterus and uterosacral ligament. To tell
you the truth...I would do the lap again any day over the colonoscopy!!
;-) And I still don't have a great handle on how you develop endo when
you have no period, but its there!
Things have gone down hill pain wise and I am now experiencing
everything you have described and then some. One thing I have learned
(especially from this site) is that endo doesn't necessarily follow the
rules and that diagnosis is all about ruling out all the other
possibilities. While surgery is a scary prospect there is no sure fire
way to confirm or deny endometriosis without getting in there and having
a look. Best of luck! I hope you find some answers soon.
