endo or not endo?From: Jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Aug 17 10:49:09 2005
I am a 28 year old young lady who has suffered through HORRIBLE periods since I was 16. I have been on all kinds of birth control pills. I would get cramps a few days before my period would start but the "earthquake" would hit the first day. I would get so bad sometimes I would pass right out & sometimes I would throw-up. I would bleed heavily for the first day - there would be lots of clots too. Then the bleeding would be minimal for the next 2-3 days. Then I would spot during some months. My doctor (actually for the first few years I was only going to a NP) would then change my birth control pill. This went on for a few years then I decided to go to an OB/GYN. We had played around for a about 1 1/2 years w/ switching pills & running tests. So then he decided to a laporoscopy. That ending up showing nothing. So, he treated me as I had endo but really didn't see anything. Then about 1 year later after the symptoms were the same he had me have a colonoscopy done, that showed nothing. Then he decided to send me to a specialist who put me on the Lupron Depot shots - 1 a month for 6 months. After I was finished w/ the shots, it took about 4 months until I got my period. The first one wasn't bad, but as they went on they seemed to get worse. I'm not to the point were I was before & they were so horrible but it's still a nightmare to live w/. I was never really diagnosed w/ endo but was just told I had symptoms like endo. I am married & would like to have a child someday - not in the near future but down the road. I am worried that there is more to my "case" then they really are telling or finding out. I have been on ogestrol for the past 2 months & I continue it w/out taking the "sugar pills". Things have been fine, but I know w/ how things have gone in the past...give it a few more months & I'll be right back to the beginning. I have tried everything - hot baths, heating pad, Advil (almost 6-8 a day), vitamins, etc - the only thing that seems to help is my pain pill (darvocet w/ codeine) but I can't really work or drive while I'm on that. I'd appreciate any help or advice. Desperate!!
