Re: The monster under the bedFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Aug 6 12:09:49 2005
Great job, Jenn! I couldn’t agree with you more! Unfortunately, I think that even if doctors were doing research on endometriosis it would be to find another drug to treat it not a treatment to cure it. There is no money is a cure. There are billions of dollars in pharmaceuticals. I know that this sounds cynical, but it is the truth as I see it and have experienced it for many years. I have been seeing doctors for 16 years ( since I was 9 years old) about pain and messed up periods and have been given every drug on the market. Whenever I return to the doc and tell them that I didn’t get relief from the drug or that my situation was worsened, I have either not believed or condescended to. How could a medication not work!? Pharmaceuticals are magic, aren’t they? That is what doctors are taught to believe. All through their training and then throughout their careers they are constantly bombarded by the message that drugs are the answer to all problems. Not only have I been going to doctors for years, I have also worked in a doctor’s office. It was appalling to me to see how the pharmaceutical reps paraded around the office, offering the doctor vacations, dinners, and whatever else as long as he would sell their goods. It sickens me. While doctors and pharmaceutical companies are fattening their pockets, women are getting sicker. Then when their wonderful drugs don’t take away our pain we are made to feel as if it is our fault! They should all feel ashamed. Maybe if enough women band together and cry out against this injustice, we can make a difference.
