Re: Describing PainFrom: Alyson (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Aug 4 10:34:25 2005
I actually had a good chuckle over Cindy's super glue analogy. I've tried explaining to my doc that not all the pain is the same. I have the daily pain that is like someone is stabbing me in the ovaries, some days there is the burning ( I think hot lava is excellent for that one), or there is the adhesion pain when you stand up and it feels like someone knit your insides together, then there is the period pain which feels like what I would imagine birthing contractions feel like- you know when you try to walk it off and end up in a ball on the floor. I think you can use these descriptions until you are blue in the face and there are going to be people that just don't get it. For instance my boss came in the other day complaining of cramps, looked at me and said "I know yours are more often". Women identify it with their normal menstrual pain, and men have no way to process the info.
