Re: any positive lupron experiences?

I have done Lupron two times now, just finished the second time in Feb. I am lucky that I do very well on it, but everyone is different. Since you asked for positive stories, I wanted to reply, as sometimes it is hard to find anything positive about Lupron.

I do experience some side effects like hot flashes and night sweats but find them more annoying than anything. The trade off of no pain is worth it. For me, I am pain free the entire time on Lupron, which kind of sucks though, as it is just a teaser for what my life COULD be like! I did it the first time in 2001 but when I started it again late last year, found I tolerated it even better. The hot flashes and the night sweats were only bad the first few weeks after a shot and when the shot was wearing off. I choose to have the three month shot for convenience. I tend to be sort of nauseous and get a bad migraine for the first 24 hours after a shot and then feel fine. Honestly, one of the worst things for me is the pain at the injection site. Kinda like a tetanus shot. Hurts pretty bad for a couple days, to the point I limp, but I just try to plan for it and get shots on Fridays so I have a weekend to recover. It does also decrease my sex drive, but since endo does that anyway for me, it wasn't a huge issue. I am lucky to be married to a patient, supportive man who stands by me.

Everyone is so different with Lupron so it is hard to know what you will experience. I hope if you do it, you have a positive experience too. It is just a band-aid, as someone else mentioned, but for me, getting even temporary pain relief is a bonus. I have also not noticed any long term effects from taking it, and as an added bonus, I actually lose about 5-10 pounds while taking Lupron.

Feel free to email me direct if you want to talk further. It was a big decision for me when I made it, and tallking to others who had done it really helped me.

Hugs! Amy Meyer
