Re: any positive lupron experiences?

Lupron has been working for me.

I have stage IV endo. I had a lapartomy about 5 weeks ago for removal of endo and adhesions. My cul-de-sac was completely filled, my uterous was STUCK to my bowels, as was my left ovary & tube. I also had endo on both my urine tubes.

As for the Lupron, I took two shots BEFORE the surgery, which helped the gyn and surgeon see everything to remove it. This is unusual. Lupron shouldn't be taken before surgery, except in extreme cases. It DID work for me, in that area. Some of the endo had shriveled up, making it easier to remove and to see other spots of endo.

Be prepared, Lupron will make you feel WORSE for the first shot or two. The reason is that your ovaries become "shocked" by the missing substance that Lupron removes, and they OVERPRODUCE estrogin at first. It takes a few weeks (sometimes more for others) for your body to "level" out and stop producing estrogin altogether.

Plus, the side effects of Lupron aren't fun. Hot flashes, bone loss, creaky joints, headaches, etc. These are the same symptoms women feel during menopause. I won't sugar coat it. The side effects suck. But for me, they are better then the pain.

Every person is different. Some people have had horrible, long lasting effects from Lupron. Some people have had positive results with removal of pain while on Lupron.

Just don't be fooled. Lupron is only a BAND-AID, because the endo WILL come back after treatment stops. The only way to get rid of endo & adhesions is to have surgery to have those areas of endo cut out. And even with surgery, there is always the chance that endo will come back in different areas. Plus, the more surgeries you have, the more likely you are to get adhesions/scar tissue. Adhesions are not fun! They can cause rectal blockages and many other problems.

Basically, taking Lupron is like playing russian roulette. You never know if the "bad" bullet is goign to strike you. Thankfully, it has worked great for me, so far. I have 2 more shots and then I am done with the treatment, and only then will I know if the Lupron will leave long lasting side effects.

You might want to ask your doctor about the new Depo-Provera. It is called Depo-Provera SUBQ. Search it out on google and read about it. It is supposed to stop your periods, with less bone loss then Lupron or the orginal Depo.

Please search around the internet and read as much as you can about Lupron before making a decision to take it. The more info you have, the better. I wish I could tell you that it will work for you, but every person is different.
