Advantages: no more periods, unless you keep your cervix. You could experience
mini-periods if you keep your cervix and ovaries. Most likely you will not experience relief of endo pain.

Disadvantages: Lengthy healing period with many internal sutures and possibly many external sutures. Ovaries are still present, endo most likely will continue to be problematic.

Tip: Visit hystersisters.net. This site is frequented by woman who are considering hysts and by women who have had hysts for endo. Not only endo, but fibroids, DUB, adeno, prolapse, and cancers of the reproductive organs. I have opted for a hyst and these ladies can share some stories...

In particular, visit The Road less Traveled at this site. You can meet women who have had continued problems with endo post-hyst. Lots of history and advice there.

Deekay

P.S. Don't consider a hyst unless your mind agrees and wishes for it. It appears that most women that regret their hyst were not convinced that it was in their best interest. Consider all options available first. And remember, not all options are available to all women. You and your physicians have to decide. Not others that you have become familiar with on a message board.
