Re: lupron depot effects & infoFrom: Tia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Jul 27 09:56:34 2005
Jenn, I am 21 years old and I had 3 month therapy of 3.75ml of Lupron. One shot a month. This is my experience..... I had the flashes bad (still have them one month off treatment) The mood swings were horrible and I did feel depressed. I just moped or slept. I was and still always tired. I was bleeding too the 2nd week and bled three weeks after my last shot. It was horrible. I had all the side effects and the add back therapy made me more sick. So I was told to stop it and I felt a bit better. It helped a bit with the pelvic pain but not with everything else. My stomach couldn't handle food and was always upset. I am still getting over that as well. I don't know how long it takes for lupron to leave your system but I will be glad when it does. It just did not work. My pelvic pain went away casue I had no period but that was it. Other than that it was sheer hell. My dr. wanted to put me on for 3 more months. I said no. I heard with 6 months you loose bone density. I am all set. The only thing which was good was that I did not get my period for a little while, so the pelvic pain lessened. Then it showed up out of nowhere and they couldn't figure out how or why it happened. I got crazy headaches, could barely hold down food, night sweats, hot flashes, horrible mood swings and zero sex drive. I agreed to try it because I heard it reacts differently for every woman. But it was too strong for me. Too much. So now my body is trying to adjust to being hormone free. That is another bit of hell. I am just tired all the time and yeast infections won't stop. I went in for a check up almost 1 month after treatment (last week) and she did an ultrasound, pelvic and rectal exams (due to the diarrhea and blood in my stool). There were no cysts on or in my ovaries and my uterus looked ok. There were no nodules, so she decided to run blood work to test for hormone levels, thyroid, diabetes and even HIV (due to the reoccuring yeast infections). The blood work came out fine. I am scheduled for my next lap (lap 2) in mid-August. I have had endo in the cul-de-ac and problems with adhesions which cause me a lot of pain. I feel better since off it, but I am still having trouble sleeping, hot flashes, and back/spine pain, and fatigue. But they say it works for some and not for all women. IT's a chance. You have to be willing to take the chance. Honestly I should have followed my instinct and known any 20 something year old women should not be "tricked" into menopause. It's up to you. Do what you think you can handle. Feel free to email me if you want to talk further. Thanks Tia Notice@hartford.edu
