AIS vs. Adenocarcinoma

From: Snowflake (anonymous@obgyn.net)

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the exact difference between Adenocarcinoma insitu (AIS)of the cervix and Adenocarcinoma(AC)of the cervix. It was my understanding that AIS is specified to and actual spot whereas AC is invasive or further into the cervix. The reason I ask is that I just received results from a LEEP with conization in which my GP has said is just AIS but that I have positive margins. How can they tell that it's not invasive if the margins are not clear? This tells me that the cone did not get all of the abnomality so how can they tell how far it goes and that it's not invasive? I'm confused..thanks in advance for the help...
