Re: pain in right ovary areaFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netFri Jul 15 15:28:56 2005
Dear Nicole, I had the same pain and still do. What it sounds like to me is that you may have an endometrioma (aka chocolate cyst). An endometrioma is a cyst but it contains blood from the endometriosis lesions bleeding hence why they call it a chocolate cyst. The reason for the pain in your ovary is probably due to the cyst basically hanging off of the ovary. I would recommend setting up an appt. with your doctor for an ultrasound and from there they can let you know if infact you have an endometrioma or another type of cyst and the size of the cyst. I am a waiting my gyn visit to discuss how to remove the endometrioma, this can be done by laparoscopy, laparotomy, or in the event the cyst is too small less than 3 cm they may wait and see how the cyst progresses or if it dissapears on its own(I am unsure if they would do a "wait and see" for an endometrioma. But never the less I would hurry to the doctor because it is painful and if you ignore the cyst it can grow larger and in my case may even cause part of the ovarian tissue to die. thank you, Amanda
