Re: What are the symptoms of endo on the bowels?? Help!!From: Shelly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Jun 30 18:08:29 2005
Hey Jill, I also have endometriosis which was diagnosed 2 years ago under a pelvic lap. I have always had problems with my stomach, but they only progressed, espescially during this past hear. I would experience abdominal cramping similar to my period, but it wasn't that since I wasn't having a period. My doctor also told me to consult a GI and I didn't believe him, so I went on with the pain. Well I finally broke down last week since I was on my period, but my stomach was so bloated, hard, distended, gasy and very painful. I did some homework before my appointment, which was today coincidentally, and I found a lot of info on IBS that sounded a lot like what I was going through. I didn't think it would be that because my pain and discomfort was so severe, I swore it had to be something more serious. Well I happened to read that sometimes your intestines/bowels cannot handle larger meals and they become inflamed and swollen. So I tried a very simple dinner since my symptoms were the worst after dinner (my biggest meal). I had chicken broth, a very little bit of rice and a very little bit of salad. Guess what? I felt better. My BM's were moving more regularly the next day and I decided to continue with the small meals, 5-6 per day. I won't say it's gotten rid of my symptoms 100%, but I feel about 90% better. I also read that adding too much fiber too fast to your diet is bad. My GI doctor confirmed that for me today. He said that for people that suffer from IBS symptoms, too much fiber is a no-no. A little bit is good, but that's it. He also went on to say that a lot of people, espescially women, find out that they have become very sensitive to certain foods and products, such as wheat and lactose. I know, you might be saying that you never had a problem before. But it's worth looking into. The bad news is that there is no definitive cure for this stuff, but you can find something that works for you. I'm going for blood work tomorrow to rule out any other possibilities and he also gave me some Zelnorm-haven't tried it yet but I'll more than happy to let you know how it goes. Don't forget that our reproductive system is all so close to our digestive system, so it's very possible that one problem can aggravate another easily and even mimick each other. Well I hope this helps you. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, or if you just want to chat with someone that knows what it's like being you, then I'm here for that too. Good Luck! -Shelly
