Slow down and take a breath you're all in a panic for possibly no reason so just try to take this one step at a time.

When you're on your period your abdomen can be quite boggy feeling and it's usually inflamed so that is why the doctor wants you to come back in two weeks to recheck. and IF he feels the same thing then that he felt today then you MAY need the colonoscopy and IF it shows endo then you MAY need more extensive surgery.

So, make the appointment and keep it. Have the exam and listen carefully to what the doctor says, take a notepad and make notes, even take a friend to help listen to what the doctor says after he has finished his exam. Meanwhile, during the next two weeks keep a note pad handy and everytime a question pops into your head about this write it down so you can ask him during your appointment.

Then, after your appointment, IF the doctor says anything that you were not expecting to hear or suggests extensive surgery vs. a laparoscopy to explore to see what's going on and remove visible endo then you move to the next step which is getting a second opinion. This is a very important step and is not an insult to the doctor at all. Most doctors would rather have their patient get a second opinion because if the 2nd doctor agrees with the first then it's confirmation that they are on the right track and if he disagrees then perhaps the first one missed or misinterpreted the exam results. If the 2nd disagrees with the first most often a repeat of a specific test or exam is done to see if the results are the same or different. If different then usually you go on a wait & see for a month or two to see if the symptoms repeat and then a retest or re-exam follows. If you feel your situation is urgent then a 3rd opinion can be sought.

So, don't go getting yourself crazed over something that may not happen. But, in the off-chance that you indeed are facing more extensive surgery this can usually be planned out well in advance to accommodate taking time from work, getting help if needed for childcare, housekeeping, etc. It wouldn't be a bad idea to consider the people around you to see who you would be able to call on for help if needed and how much they are able to offer you. The more advance notice you can give them the more they will be able to give you.

Hope it all works out for you and that you don't spend the next 2 weeks stressed out.
