What formulation did you use? Ever wonder why all of a sudden a lot of kids medicines are being made without color now? It could be that you were allergic to one of the non-active ingredients such as the material the capsules were made of, the dye in the liquid or the tablets, etc. What you describe is definitely an allergic reaction but does not necessarily mean it is the benadryl drug itself but then again, that is why there are different types of drugs that are meant to treat the same conditions. In any case, if you can use a different type of antihistamine without any reaction than by all means, stay away from the benadryl. And if you can find a formulation that does not contain unnecessary dyes then use them when possible.
