Re: continuous birth control and extreme fatigueFrom: Sam (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Jun 11 01:03:52 2005
I don't know anything about birth control really since the only time I took it was 7 1/2 years ago now, and only for 6 months. While on it, I ended up with my periods getting longer and longer till they were 23 days long though my cycles stayed the same 30-31 days. So, as you can imagine...I'm not quite brave enough to go back on the pill or any other kind of BC. That said, you might get your thyroid checked and also get tests run for Lupus or have the pain points checked to make sure you don't have Fibromyalgia. Not that any of them would be tied in with the birth control and could suddenly come out of hiding, but if it isn't a side effect of the BC, those are common things that can cause extreme tiredness. Be warned though, with Lupus, it can take YEARS to get diagnosed because you may have it but the tests that confirm it may be negative for years. Thyroid problems may not show up positive either oddly enough. A friend of mine has been tested multiple times in one year and finally got results that showed her thyroid was off. Fibro is more easily diagnosed, but unfortunately many doctors don't believe it is anything but a mental problem. Whatever it is, I'd find out first if it could be the BC, then talk to the doctor about finding out what is wrong if you find it isn't the BC. I'm going to a Rheumatologist because I'm having problems with pain and exhaustion. She thought it was Fibro because I have some of the pain points, but not enough to be conclusive. I have arthritis though come to find out, so it isn't Fibro and now she's thinking I may have Lupus. Anyhoo...just thought I'd chime in. Exhaustion is not fun. If it is the BC though, that is easily solved! =) Good luck.
