Re: Endo, My Daughter and I...a promising new treatment

There have been some concerns raised about this posting and I have checked into the information being provided in the postings by Sheila Eddy.

Firstly, this drug, Letrozole is being used 'off-label' in a very small, non-randomized study of only 10 patients. This means that the information gained from this 'study' will not be recognized by the pharmaceutical industry, FDA or other medical professionals as having any real meaning, however, if the results and follow-ups of Dr. Bulun's research is impressive enough to show some promise then some actual clinical trials MAY be forthcoming.

Keep in mind that off-label use of medications is becoming more and more common and is often the reason why some drugs are being pulled out of circulation. Just because the side-effect of a drug has a desireable affect on another condition doesn't mean it's safe to use for that purpose. Letrozole is a breast cancer drug, it's a very strong drug and to use it for the routine treatment of endometriosis is a rather dangerous course of action and can expose the physician and the pharmaceutical company to legal proceedings should the drug prove to have other effects not currently obvious.

Always, always, always, read everything you can find and educate yourself enough to have a fully comprehensive consultation with your own doctors to come to the best course of action for your own personal circumstance. The Internet can be a wealth of information but you really need to be a little bit cynical about what you read.

Bottom line, keep an eye on the clinical trials website http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ for more information about new treatment trials in your area.
